Nate, thank you for featuring Varah Gourmet and our Masala Cranberries in this week’s Express Checkout Substack! We’re thrilled to be recognized alongside so many innovative brands bringing globally inspired flavors to the snack aisle.
Honey everywhere is certainly interesting. Would love to know how the wellness community responds to it as it has a high glycemic index (how fast your sugar blood levels spike), which doesnt happen with other natural sweeteners as dates, stevia and monk fruit
As much as I agree that having an ingredient do double duty (act as both a sweetener and a flavor ingredient), and as much as their are actual benefits to honey, the true total benefit seems to be negligible. From everything I can find, honey isn’t really “healthier” than regular table sugar. It certainly brings nutrients that regular sugar doesn’t have, but there’s a big gap between “brings some nutrients” and “healthier”.
To be clear, I’m not saying that you guys are saying this. I merely wanted to highlight that I’m skeptical about the value of honey as a “healthier” sweetener. This is also simply due to how much sugar we consume: it doesn’t really matter if a sugar source is “healthier” is if you’re consuming too much of it.
